Per Hoier should be well-known for lovers of the V/Vm + Goodiebag + Demonbag + Mainpal Inv. + Datanom. Per is finally ready to release again after months of patient work in the studio. Per tells the ladies that he’s a pop musician. We tend to both agree and disagree. Great pop music, great melodies, presented with a World Serpent like vocal on top of apocalyptic data structures. No ironic distance, it’s all sincere pathos. Imagine Antony and the Johnsons being a robot… Confused? So are we, but we love it though!! Because he is who he is, this is not exactly a straight take on it, but the tracks have enough normalcy between them to ‘pass’ inside many clubs and boutiques. I Start Counting/The Blueprint (LJUD 7”) has a vibe that makes me think of Man of Words-era Bowie, singing Carpenters songs, while being backed by a small combo of robotic earthworms. There is a kind of glisten that you associate with worms, isn’t there? And there are other things too. How dandy!
